Raising our kids to have healthy relationships is not about control controlling, restriction, or letting them do whatever they damn well please.
It's not about avoiding larger bodies, or even about avoiding eating disorders.
It's about letting them develop their own relationships through trial, error, messing up, practice, and learning about their own bodies.
You don't find this on any "healthy habits" tip sheets.
As a pediatrician, I've learned what isn't working for our families. It's time to help without harm.
It's time for understanding that disordered eating is more often a function of control. Bodies don't need control or management. They need to learn and grow.
Let's continue the conversation.
