You want your kids to develop a healthy relationship with their food, and their body, but our current approach is actually causing the food fights and friction and meltdowns that we have every single day.
Controlling what our kids eat, even though it's from the very best of intentions, is not helping them develop a relationship with food. It actually messes it up.
Tell someone what to do, they'll tell you where to go. We all do it, including our kids.
This is the basis for the shame in the body hatred and the disordered eating that we know far too well. But change is possible.
It's just a matter of understanding that it's not about changing our kids, or their food. It starts with changing our approach, parents. No, this is not the way that you grew up. This is not what you know.
And that is why I am here to help. I'm Dr. Wendy Schofer, MD, pediatrician specializing in helping families create healthy relationships with food, body, and each other.
